How much do the SBDC's services cost?
Workshops sponsored by the SBDC at UNF require a nominal registration fee. Counseling is free of charge. Some of the counseling tools require a nominal fee.
What are the SBDC's hours of operation?
The SBDC at UNF operates during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Workshops are often held in the evening, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Circuit rides are scheduled regularly at various times and locations.
Will I need a parking pass on the UNF campus.
The SBDC at UNF's offices on the UNF Campus are located in the University Center. Parking at the University Center does not require a parking pass.
How do I qualify for SBDC services?
Workshops are open to any person thinking of starting a business or already in business. Counseling is available to start-ups and existing business owners, although those not yet in business are strongly encouraged to attend at least the "How to STARTUP Your Own Business" workshop. Existing businesses utilizing SBDC services must be considered "small" according to the U.S. Small Business Administration's guidelines. Although the SBDC at UNF's primary focus is for-profit businesses, leaders of non-profit businesses often attend applicable SBDC workshops.
How do I use the SBDC resource library?
The SBDC at UNF maintains a small business resource library at the regional office in Jacksonville, at the district office in Ocala and at the area office in Gainesville. These libraries are open during regular SBDC business hours. Although resource materials cannot be checked out of the libraries, clients and workshop attendees are welcome to spend time utilizing the resources on site. It is recommended that you call the appropriate SBDC office prior to your visit to ensure that the facility is available for use.
What credentials do SBDC staff and workshop instructors have that qualify them to provide me with business management advice and training?
Our staff brings a wealth of experience, education, and expertise to the small business owner. Certified Business Analysts are required to continue their education by staying up-to-date on the latest small business trends and information. Workshops instructors include staff members and volunteers. These volunteers are experts in their field, from accounting to taxes, from marketing to recordkeeping, they give the small business owner access to professionals.
Will information I discuss with an SBDC Certified Business be kept confidential?
All information shared with the SBDC is maintained strictly confidential and will not be released to any party without the written approval of the small business client. Each client is asked to sign a Request for Counseling form which includes a statement that ensures this confidentiality.
