What the Economic Stimulus Means to Nonprofits

Tracey Myers-Preston posted this short notice on Examiner.com with great links describing the stimulus package’s potential impact on the nonprofit community.

As nonprofit leaders continue to face the current economic challenges, many may be wondering how the economic stimulus bill singed into law in February will directly impact the nonprofit sector. The National Council of Nonprofits has published a special report, Federal Economic Stimulus Legislation: Nonprofit Grant Opportunities, detailing what the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 means for the nonprofit community.

The National Council of Nonprofits mission is to “advances the vital role and capacity of the nonprofit sector in civil society and supports and gives voice to state and regional associations of nonprofit organizations.” The report provides information on specific grants in program areas including arts and humanities, education and INTERNET access, employment and job training, energy and human and social services. Each summary describes the nature of the program and shows the amount appropriated.
A new government website,

recovery.org, also provides useful information, answers to frequently asked questions, and a time line of important deadlines and events. The site is to serve as the official transparent public place where grant distribution information will be posted. Information on specific grants available will be published on the grants.gov website.
