Are you ready for a Switch?

Change is good, right?  Then why is it so hard sometimes?  In the book, Switch: How to Change Things When Change is Hard, the authors, brothers Dan and Chip Heath, help us find out why and how to overcome the frustration and fear of change.

One of the biggest challenges entrepreneurs often face is managing change – for prospects, customers and employees.   If we understand why people behave as they do, we have a better likelihood of achieving change.

Switch suggests that making change happen is part of a three-part challenge. The more you address each part, the more successful you will likely be.  In a nutshell, here are the parts:

1.      Provide clear direction. What looks like resistance to change is often a lack of clarity.

2.      No action or change takes place unless our emotional self buys in, motivated, has clarity.  Making a connection on an emotional level, helps us all keep moving forward.

3.      The Path:  If you want people to change, make the process easier.

Switch coverschange at every level: individual, organizational and societal.  So if you are thinking it might time to make a change, it might be time to check out this book for a good place to start.

Dan Heath will be the keynote speaker at the 21stAnnual Small Business Week Celebration on April 30th at the UNF University Center in Jacksonville, FL.  To learn more and register for the event go to www.sbdc.unf.edu/smallbusinessweek.
