Founded in 1961, R.M. Myers Company, Inc. specializes in top of the line HVAC hydronic equipment sales, including pumps, valves, boilers, variable frequency drives, fire safety equipment and related services.
In November, 2007 the business entered a new phase when it was purchased by Eloy Bazaldua.  Eloy brought 25 years of HVAC experience to the business, including a background of various industry executive positions, field sales management in New York, Texas, Louisiana, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri and Florida, and an MBA from the University of Connecticut.
Having attended several SBDC entrepreneur workshops prior to purchasing the business, Eloy soon reached out to Paul Arrington, a Certified Business Consultant at the SBDC at UNF, who assisted the business as it prepared to expand its marketing into new territories.  In 2012 Eloy began taking advantage of two special services offered by the SBDC at UNF.  Using the SBDC’s Growth Acceleration Services, a service designed to deliver substantive professional business consulting to qualified small and medium-sized businesses, Eloy was paired with a business consultant who provided in-depth assistance exploring and forecasting the feasibility of launching new services for growth opportunities.  Under the Business 180 program, which was developed to provide SBA borrowers with access to intensive consulting and training in order to sustain growth, the business received professional consulting assistance that resulted in the development of an updated website better reflecting the firm’s current sales strategy and HR-specific business development.  As government contracting provides significant opportunities for the firm’s line of products and services, Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) consultant Don Zavesky also assisted the firm in further refining its government-related marketing strategies and techniques.

Eloy Bazaldua was recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration as Florida Statewide Minority Owned Small Business Person of the Year in 2013.  Additionally, R.M. Myers Company has eight full-time employees and close to $2.8 million in sales. “Deciding to operate a business was a challenging step for us,” says Eloy.  “I have to say that the SBDC has been wonderful and a key part of our success.”
