Contracting company experiences growth and success employing 20 people in the Jacksonville area

Since 1998, Miranda Contracting, Inc. has been providing site and utility contractor services in support of government public works projects, retail and commercial developers, and residential communities. They have successfully completed over 35 projects, totaling over $23 million. Known as the “hands-on, you can count on company,” James Garrison, Miranda President, and Joshua Garrison, Miranda CEO, personally superintend every project. Together, they lead a well-seasoned and highly skilled team of estimators, project managers, foremen, equipment operators and laborers. As Joshua says, “We understand that customers need a competitive price from a reliable, sound, and qualified contractor. That’s who we are – hands-on, on time, and as expected.” Miranda’s capabilities include site preparation, excavation, water and wastewater utilities, paving, drainage, and landscaping services, to name a few. They are also a licensed fire main contractor and hold a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) inspector license.

Recognizing the opportunities for market expansion and growth through government contracts, the team at Miranda sought out the assistance of the FSBDC at the University of North Florida. Joshua Garrison, Miranda CEO, met with the FSBDC Government Contracting Specialist, Don Zavesky, to gain a better understanding of how to increase business with government agencies and prime contractors. Together, they worked to gain an understanding of the government marketplace and potential subcontracting opportunities, relevant to Miranda Contracting. The FSBDC provided Miranda market intelligence information through FSBDC’s Rapid Research Request services. In addition, Don and Joshua identified several preferred small business certifications, such as the Florida MBE and Jacksonville JSEB certifications. Utilizing this information and resources, Joshua and the team at Miranda, successfully prepared all required paperwork and submitted their small business applications to the State and City of Jacksonville. This resulted in Miranda receiving their Hispanic MBE and JSEB certifications.

“The support and resources provided by the FSBDC at UNF have been instrumental in preparing our application and receiving our Jacksonville Small and Emerging Business (JSEB) certification. Many thanks to the team at UNF!”

Since receiving their MBE and JSEB certifications, Miranda is competing for and anticipates receiving multiple subcontracting awards on local government contracts, in the near future. In addition, they have received prime contracts through local government agencies. Historically, some of Miranda’s clients have included: City of Jacksonville, Putnam County, Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, Numerous commercial developers, and area residential developers.

The FSBDC is proud to support and be associated with the team at Miranda Contracting. The company continues to experience growth and success including growing to employ 20 people in the Jacksonville area; receiving recent contract awards valued in the millions; and submitting proposals for numerous subcontracting opportunities.

In the future, the FSBDC team is looking forward to assisting the staff at Miranda in developing and preparing their application for participation in the SBA Federal 8 (a) Business Development program.
