Success Story

Blue Dolphin Software, Inc

Over the years, we have found the FSBDC at the University of North Florida to be most helpful. From the Director, Janice Donaldson, to the PTAC Specialists, such as Don Zavesky, all are very knowledgeable and professional.

Kathryn and Gregory Scott are the officers of Blue Dolphin Software, Inc., an IT support services business based in the Jacksonville, Florida area. Blue Dolphin Software manages IT projects of all sizes and complexities; develops programs, databases, and web-based applications; and provides implementation, staffing, and direct placement services. Some of the markets they support include supply chain management and logistics companies, manufacturing industries, distribution and transportation companies, and U.S. Government agencies. Since establishing their business in 1998, Kathryn and Gregory have supported many large and small companies including IBM, Ports America, Landstar, Lockheed Martin, American Greetings, Warner Brothers, Colomer, Rexel, and Gate. Regarding their company’s dedication to superior customer service, Kathryn and Gregory say, “We take great pride in our work for all of our stellar corporate customers.”

One of their strategic goals is to expand and diversify the customer base of Blue Dolphin Software through government markets. To be eligible for government contracts, Kathryn and Gregory recognized the importance of obtaining various small business certifications and registrations. Their first stop was to engage the services at the FSBDC at the University of North Florida. Kathryn and Gregory started by attending a government contracting workshop. Then they met with Don Zavesky, Government Contracting Specialist, to discuss what business registrations they would need, how to market to government buyers and prime contractors, and what government market segments to focus their business development efforts on. In order to be eligible for Federal contracts, Kathryn, Gregory, and Don worked together to successfully register in the System for Award Management (SAM). They also completed their profile information in the SBA’s Dynamic Small Business Search; a database used by government buyers to find contractors who provide the services and commodities agencies need to support our country. Finally, they successfully completed all registration requirements for the Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB) designation.

The FSBDC is proud to be associated and in support of Kathryn and Gregory’s business. Since successfully completing their registrations and WOSB designation, they are actively pursuing and anticipate receiving multiple subcontracting projects and direct government agency contract awards, in the near future. Blue Dolphin Software is a great example of how, as a team, together with Florida business owners, the FSBDC can make a positive impact in the community – one business at a time.
