Success Story

Lil’ Voyagers Academy

I was referred to the SBDC during the time I was toying with the idea of expanding. Getting an appointment and an actual sit down with a consultant was very expedient.

Lil’ Voyagers Academy was birthed out of a dream that Trisha Cornelius held for several years. She has always had a passion for childcare and had spent her time volunteering and helping out her local community. It was not until 2004 while looking for quality childcare for her own daughter that she finally turned her passion into a business, and Lil Voyagers was born.

Operating as an intermediate size child day care service, Lil’ Voyagers Academy provides an affordable, safe, loving and nurturing home away from the home environment. Kids can explore, grow and develop while offering peace of mind to their parents who are employed to provide for their families. As the owner and manager of Lil’ Voyagers Academy, this is a commitment which Trisha takes very seriously, evidenced in the testimonies of many satisfied clients. Lil’ Voyagers has operated at capacity and has an extensive waiting list every year so at the request of the community that she serves, Trisha has had to consider expanding to accommodate the demand.

To that end, Trisha utilized the help of her FSBDC Consultant at UNF, Lucy Diala, to better help her manage her growth, shore up her business operations financially, and position her business for the next chapter

Trisha says of her assistance from the FSBDC; “I was referred to the SBDC during the time I was toying with the idea of expanding. Getting an appointment and an actual sit down with a consultant was very expedient. Lucy Diala was assigned to me, and from the onset I was made to feel extremely comfortable. She was very knowledgeable and had the highest level of professionalism. She strategically walked me through the expansion process and give me the tools to make it happen. She laid out a plan and pointed me to where I could gather the information. I was also given assignments to be completed on a set schedule. I followed up with Lucy to get her input. This individualized attention aided me in completing a professional portfolio that I used to seek financing for my business expansion. Thanks to Lucy Diala and the SBDC for making this part of my business journey easier.”
